Manchester United and Liverpool are both showing interest in Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, according to reports. The 21-year-old joined Newcastle permanently for £28 million last year after an initial loan spell from Chelsea.
Hall’s performances this season have attracted attention, with Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, reportedly a “big admirer” of the player. TEAMtalk reports that United are considering a move for Hall in the summer of 2026. However, Newcastle are currently unwilling to sell, viewing Hall as a key part of their long-term project and possessing a contract that runs until 2029.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has urged his former club to pursue Hall, particularly with Andy Robertson expected to leave Anfield this summer. Murphy believes Hall is a “wonderful player” and “very, very good” in one-on-one defending, suggesting Liverpool should be prepared to pay a premium to secure his signature if Newcastle were to change their stance.
Murphy also expressed concerns about Liverpool’s recent signings, questioning whether £40 million summer acquisition Milos Kerkez is “at the level” required to compete for major honours. He believes Liverpool need a more established left-back to challenge for league titles and Champions League success. Murphy also noted concerns about the quality of Liverpool’s right-back options, suggesting a need for further investment in that position as well.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has overseen significant progress in Hall’s game, further increasing his value. While other clubs are monitoring the situation, Newcastle’s firm stance and Hall’s contentment on Tyneside present significant obstacles to any potential transfer in the upcoming window. Securing Hall would provide either United or Liverpool with a promising young full-back capable of contributing immediately.
