Manchester United’s midfield overhaul continues to take shape as they reassess targets following developments elsewhere in the Premier League. According to reports, Brighton’s potential pursuit of AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara could open the door for United to reignite their interest in Carlos Baleba, a player they identified as a key target last summer.
The Daily Mail reports that Brighton are now entering the race for Camara, anticipating offers for Baleba. United previously considered Baleba but were unable to finalize a deal. Should Camara move to the Amex Stadium, it could provide United with a renewed opportunity to secure Baleba’s services.
Despite a challenging first season since arriving from Chelsea for almost €68 million in 2023, Mason Mount is not expected to be sold this summer. The midfielder has struggled with injuries limiting his playing time, and although former manager Ruben Amorim, now at AC Milan, is reportedly keen on a reunion, the club are unwilling to let him leave.
United’s midfield plans remain active despite a setback with Manuel Ugarte, who suffered serious ligament damage at the World Cup. The injury to the Uruguay international, who was a potential candidate for sale, will not impact the club’s pursuit of further midfield reinforcements. However, this may lead to a postponement of signing a new left-winger until next year.
One midfielder previously linked with a move to Old Trafford, Mateus Fernandes, is now set to join Tottenham in a deal worth €98 million from West Ham. This leaves United focusing on alternative options in midfield.
Meanwhile, the future of Marcus Rashford at United is looking increasingly secure. Fabrizio Romano reports that positive discussions have taken place with Rashford’s representatives, and there is a willingness from all parties to reintegrate him into the squad following the expiration of his loan deal with Barcelona. While United will still consider offers, Rashford may remain at the club.
These developments signal a dynamic transfer window for Manchester United as they strive to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
