Manchester United have entered the competition to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille, according to reports in Gazzetta dello Sport. The 21-year-old forward has emerged as a target for several top European clubs following an impressive season in Ligue 1.
Fernandez-Pardo scored eight goals and provided five assists in 29 league appearances for Lille, helping the club secure a third-place finish and Champions League qualification. His versatility, being able to play as a striker or on either wing, is a key attribute attracting interest from multiple clubs. Manchester City, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Serie A side Como have also been linked with a move for the Belgian international.
However, Newcastle United are currently considered frontrunners for Fernandez-Pardo’s signature, with TEAMtalk understanding he is a concrete target for Eddie Howe. The Magpies view him as a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon, who recently completed a move to Barcelona. Newcastle believe Fernandez-Pardo’s style of play would seamlessly integrate into their attacking system.
Graeme Bailey, a TEAMtalk transfer insider, has reported that Newcastle are particularly interested in Fernandez-Pardo due to his ability to play on the left side of attack, mirroring the role previously occupied by Gordon. A further complicating factor for United is that Fernandez-Pardo shares representation with Gordon, potentially streamlining negotiations for Newcastle.
Manchester United’s interest stems from uncertainty surrounding the future of Joshua Zirkzee, with the club reportedly open to selling the Dutch forward for the right offer. Lille are reluctant to sell Fernandez-Pardo, and it is estimated it would take a fee of around €60 million (£52m / $70m) to convince them to part ways with the player. The competition for Fernandez-Pardo is expected to be fierce, but Newcastle’s existing interest and the player’s representation could give them an advantage in securing his signature.
