Manchester United are continuing their efforts to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, despite reports suggesting the player has already reached an agreement in principle with Manchester City. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that United are “still calling” for Anderson, though City remain confident of securing his signature.
Anderson, 21, has been a key player for Forest since joining from Newcastle United, establishing himself as a dynamic presence in midfield. He has become a target for multiple top clubs due to his performances, and Forest have reportedly valued him at £125 million. The interest from both Manchester clubs reflects his growing reputation within the Premier League.
According to sources, personal terms between Anderson and Manchester City are already agreed, and the arrival of Enzo Maresca as City’s new manager has not altered their pursuit of the midfielder. Maresca, like his predecessor Pep Guardiola, views Anderson as a valuable addition to the squad. BBC Sport also reports that Anderson is ‘leaning’ towards a move to the Etihad Stadium, with a ‘growing expectation’ that he will join City.
United, however, are not giving up on the chase, with the club’s co-owners, INEOS, reportedly identifying Anderson as a “dream” signing. They are simultaneously pursuing other midfield targets, including Atalanta’s Ederson Silva, who is reportedly close to completing a five-year deal with the club. Other players of interest include Mateus Fernandes and Aurelien Tchouameni, indicating a broader effort to strengthen the midfield ahead of next season’s Champions League campaign. The competition for Anderson highlights United’s ambition to reinforce their squad with top talent.
Securing Anderson would be a significant coup for either club, adding a promising young talent to an already competitive midfield. While City appear to be in the driving seat, United’s continued interest suggests the transfer saga is far from over.
