Manchester United scouts were present in Greece on Sunday to observe Inter Milan forward Pio Esposito, according to TEAMtalk. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season with Inter, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists, establishing himself as a promising young talent in European football.
Esposito’s performances have attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham, and the ownership group of Chelsea, BlueCo, who have all been monitoring his progress over the past year. Scouts from Old Trafford were reportedly in attendance for Italy’s recent matches against Luxembourg and Greece, where Esposito found the net in both fixtures.
This interest from Manchester United comes at a time when the club is evaluating its attacking options for the upcoming summer transfer window. Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee is increasingly likely to depart, potentially creating a space in the squad for Esposito. Interestingly, TEAMtalk understands that Inter Milan themselves retain an interest in Zirkzee, adding a potential complexity to any negotiations.
Despite the growing Premier League interest, Inter Milan are highly regarded Esposito’s potential and believe he can become a key player for the club in the future. However, the young striker is aware of the opportunities that may arise from interest from other European giants. United’s scouting mission wasn’t solely focused on Esposito, as they also continued assessments of Greek internationals Christos Tzolis and Christos Mouzakitis, indicating a broader recruitment strategy.
Esposito’s development has been rapid, and his displays have convinced United’s recruitment staff that he possesses the qualities to become a top-level centre-forward. Should he move to Manchester, he would likely compete for a starting position alongside existing forwards, adding depth and potential to United’s attack.
