Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, with the club’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, leading negotiations. The news comes after reports last week indicated United’s strong interest in the 25-year-old.
Several other Premier League clubs are also monitoring Nmecha’s situation, including Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and his former club Manchester City. The German international has recently impressed with a goal and an assist in Germany’s 7-1 win over Curacao, and another assist in a 2-1 victory against Ivory Coast.
According to Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger, Vivell is currently in contact with Nmecha’s representatives. Berger stated on X (formerly Twitter) that a move to the Premier League is considered a realistic option for the player, though Nmecha is currently content at Dortmund and focused on international duty. Dortmund are reportedly seeking a fee of around £52million (€60m, $69m) for the midfielder, and are preparing to offer Nmecha a salary comparable to that previously earned by Niklas Sule.
United are aiming to sign two new midfielders this summer, having already secured a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson. However, securing a second addition has proven challenging, with pursuits of Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest and Mateus Fernandes of West Ham facing competition from Manchester City and Tottenham respectively. Other midfield targets include Aurelien Tchouameni of Real Madrid and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace. Nmecha’s profile, therefore, represents a viable and exciting option for strengthening United’s midfield ahead of the new season.
With Vivell actively engaged in discussions, it remains to be seen whether United will submit a formal bid for Nmecha in the coming weeks.
