Manchester United have been encouraged to pursue a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery, according to former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf. The suggestion comes as United prepare to finalize a £35 million agreement for Atalanta’s Ederson, who will be the first signing under new manager Michael Carrick.
The 20-year-old Zaire-Emery made 54 appearances for PSG last season, playing a key role as they secured another Ligue 1 title. Despite his importance to Luis Enrique’s squad, Leboeuf believes the young Frenchman would be a “great signing” for United as they return to Champions League competition. He highlighted Zaire-Emery’s combative style, describing him as a “warrior” who would sacrifice himself for the team.
Leboeuf, speaking to CSB, also noted Carrick’s potential to mentor Zaire-Emery, drawing parallels between their playing positions. He suggested Carrick could provide valuable guidance to help the midfielder adapt to the Premier League. However, Leboeuf acknowledged Zaire-Emery’s inconsistent form in the first half of last season, suggesting he may have been affected by uncertainty over his future.
Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has also voiced his support for a move for Zaire-Emery, calling him a “dream signing” for the club. Saha praised Zaire-Emery’s versatility, noting his ability to play in multiple midfield and defensive positions. He believes the player’s intelligence, commitment, and work ethic would make him a valuable asset to any team, and that he could seamlessly integrate alongside Kobbie Mainoo in United’s midfield. The potential addition of Zaire-Emery would represent a significant investment in United’s midfield rebuild following the departure of Casemiro and uncertainty surrounding Manuel Ugarte.
United are also reportedly considering a move for Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, but Leboeuf’s recommendation adds another name to their list of potential targets. The club’s representatives are reportedly confident of securing another midfielder this summer, though a deal for a Barcelona player has reportedly fallen through.
