Manchester United reach verbal agreement with Harry Maguire on new contract
Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement with defender Harry Maguire over a new one-year contract, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The deal will extend the England international's stay at Old Trafford until June 2027, with the club holding an option for a further year.
Maguire's previous contract was set to expire this summer, which would have allowed him to leave on a free transfer. The club have moved to secure his future after he re-established himself as a key player under interim manager Michael Carrick. Maguire has started 10 consecutive Premier League matches for the Red Devils this season.
The 32-year-old was recalled to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel for the recent international break, underlining his return to form. His run of consecutive starts will, however, be interrupted by a one-match suspension after he was sent off in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth before the internationals.
In a separate but related development, the club are also in negotiations to secure a new long-term contract for midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. The 20-year-old, whose current deal runs until 2027, has also become a central figure under Carrick after his involvement had diminished under previous manager Ruben Amorim.
These contract moves signal a period of squad stabilization under the interim management, with the club moving to reward players who have become integral to the first-team setup. The formal signing of Maguire's new deal is expected to be completed before the end of the current campaign.
