FC Augsburg have confirmed that Manuel Baum will remain as the club’s head coach until the end of the 2027/28 season, following a successful interim spell. The announcement comes after Augsburg secured a ninth-placed finish in the Bundesliga, their best result in over a decade.
Baum initially returned to Augsburg mid-season, replacing Sandro Wagner after a difficult start to the campaign. His leadership helped the club achieve a strong finish, ultimately earning him a permanent contract. He previously managed Augsburg between 2017 and 2019, guiding them to Europa League qualification during his first spell under Markus Weinzierl.
Meanwhile, Alexis Claude-Maurice has been named FC Augsburg’s Bulinews Player of the Season, receiving half of the votes from a team of ten writers. The attacking midfielder beat out goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, who won the award last season, despite scoring fewer goals than in his debut campaign. Claude-Maurice’s form improved significantly after the winter break, contributing five goals and four assists.
Claude-Maurice’s goals all came at Augsburg’s home ground, the WWK Arena, where the team maintained a strong record. He notably scored the opening goal in four different matches, including a game against Hoffenheim where he missed a penalty that would have secured a victory. The 27-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season, and the club may consider a sale this summer.
Fabian Rieder finished second in the Bulinews voting with two votes, having enjoyed a more productive season with Augsburg than during his loan spell at Stuttgart. Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, Noahkai Banks, and Michael Gregoritsch also received votes. Gregoritsch, who rejoined the club in January, finished as joint-top scorer alongside Rieder and Anton Kade, each with six goals. Baum’s permanent appointment and Claude-Maurice’s recognition highlight a positive trajectory for Augsburg as they look to build on their recent success.
