AC Milan have confirmed the permanent signing of Mario Gila from Lazio, with the defender signing a contract that runs until 2031. The club announced the deal on Wednesday evening, with Gila set to earn a net salary of €5 million per season. He will wear the number 34 shirt for the Rossoneri.
Gila joins Milan after four seasons with Lazio, where he made 120 appearances and scored two goals. The Spaniard established himself as a reliable defender in Serie A during his time in Rome, contributing to Lazio’s defensive solidity. He was a regular starter under Maurizio Sarri, demonstrating his aerial ability and tackling prowess.
Speaking through the club’s social media channels, Gila expressed his excitement about joining Milan. “We can do great things together,” he stated. “I think I can show my best here. This shirt weighs a lot, I am aware of it: I want to learn and give my all on the pitch. The goal is to reach the levels that have made Milan great.”
After completing his medical examinations and finalizing the transfer, Gila spoke to Sky Sport Italia, adding that he is eager to repay the faith shown in him by the Milan directors. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to achieve success under new manager Paulo Amorim, whom he has already spoken with. Gila also took to social media to bid farewell to Lazio, stating that Rome would remain in his heart and thanking the club and its supporters for their support.
The move for Gila provides Milan with added depth in their defensive options as they prepare for the upcoming season. The acquisition addresses a need for a physical and dependable centre-back, complementing their existing squad. This transfer signals Milan’s intent to strengthen their squad following a period of transition, and could prove vital in a competitive Serie A campaign.
