Kylian Mbappe’s future at Real Madrid is under scrutiny after a challenging two years following his move from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024. Despite a strong goalscoring record of 85 goals in 100 appearances, the France international has reportedly fallen out of favour with the club’s supporters and potentially teammates, and has yet to secure major silverware with Los Blancos.
A viral petition calling for his departure has garnered over 70 million signatures, and recent reports suggest head coach Alvaro Arbeloa may not include him in future lineups. Mbappe recently withdrew from contention for El Clasico against Barcelona citing discomfort in training, a decision that reportedly surprised club staff and further angered fans after a 2-0 defeat handed Barcelona the La Liga title.
While Mbappe has four years remaining on his contract, a potential exit this summer would likely command a world-record fee, exceeding the €222 million Paris Saint-Germain paid for Neymar in 2017. Arsenal have emerged as the bookmakers’ favourites to sign him should he become available, but former Gunner Emmanuel Petit believes a Champions League victory for Arsenal against PSG on May 30th could significantly boost their chances of attracting him.
However, data analytics firm SciSports has advised Mbappe to remain at Real Madrid, citing a Club Fit score of 96 out of 100, significantly higher than the 69 awarded to Arsenal. While acknowledging Mbappe’s potential to thrive at the Emirates Stadium, SciSports believes a move would not be the most suitable option for the player, despite the opportunity to lead the line on the left wing.
SciSports highlights that despite current difficulties, the foundations for success are in place at Real Madrid, contingent on a successful managerial appointment. They suggest Mbappe needs to adjust his approach, contributing more defensively, but ultimately believe remaining at the Bernabeu is his best path forward, despite concerns over his on-field relationship with Vinicius Jr. The report concludes that while Arsenal could offer a platform for Mbappe to be a superstar, staying at Real Madrid represents his most suitable choice this summer.
