Kylian Mbappé has expressed his disapproval of the possibility of Didier Deschamps managing the Italian national team. The France captain described the potential move as “ugly” in an interview with French broadcaster M6, according to reports from Italy.
Deschamps has been the head coach of France for 14 years, and while he has not definitively ruled out future options, he recently indicated to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport that he would not exclude the possibility of managing Italy or returning to Serie A as a club manager. He emphasized his desire to continue coaching for as long as possible, stating that the profession is his “adrenaline.”
Mbappé acknowledged a change in Deschamps’ demeanor, noting that the coach appears more relaxed and adaptable to younger players than in the past. He praised Deschamps’ ability to maintain a consistent message while evolving his approach, and expressed the team’s desire to honor his leadership with success. Despite this praise, Mbappé reiterated his hope that Deschamps will remain with France, emphasizing his national identity.
Deschamps’ contract with the French national team is set to be re-evaluated after the upcoming World Cup, with Zinedine Zidane widely speculated to be a potential replacement. The coach has received offers from other clubs and national associations, and continues to assess his options. Deschamps’ comments to La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest he is open to exploring opportunities outside of France, but Mbappé’s public statement indicates a strong desire to keep him within the French football setup. This situation could influence Deschamps’ decision as he weighs his future prospects.
