Kylian Mbappe has revealed that Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham frequently inquires about a potential move to Major League Soccer. The France international, currently competing with Les Bleus, made the comments while discussing his impressions of the United States ahead of their match against Iraq.
Mbappe is in his second season with Real Madrid, having signed a five-year contract with Los Blancos in 2024. Despite a prolific goalscoring record of 42 goals in 44 games, the forward has faced criticism from some Real Madrid supporters, with an online petition even calling for his departure due to perceived influence within the club. His status as a key figure for both Real Madrid and the French national team has led to some online commentary labeling him as overly influential.
When asked about the possibility of playing in MLS, particularly following former teammate Antoine Griezmann’s recent move to Orlando City, Mbappe expressed a fondness for the United States. “It’s a country with a different culture compared to ours in Europe, and I’ve always liked it,” he stated. He also highlighted the American culture of ambition and openness.
He then disclosed that Beckham “often” asks him about joining Inter Miami. “Why would I move here? I don’t know,” Mbappe admitted. “David Beckham often asks me whether I want to come to the United States, but I don’t know. Maybe one day, we’ll see.”
Inter Miami, since its inception in 2020, has attracted several high-profile players, including Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi, both of whom played alongside Mbappe in France’s 2018 World Cup-winning squad. The arrival of Lionel Messi in 2023 further elevated the club’s profile. The club’s ownership, particularly Jorge Mas, has demonstrated a willingness to invest heavily in acquiring top talent, though they remain subject to MLS financial regulations.
Mbappe’s contract with Real Madrid expires in 2029, and he would be 30 years old at that point, an age considered suitable for a move to MLS. He could potentially succeed Messi as the league’s marquee player, and has indicated he does not intend to play into his forties like Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, making a move to Miami a logical option later in his career.
