Kylian Mbappe has been linked with a potential move to both Arsenal and Liverpool as he experiences a challenging period at Real Madrid, according to recent reports. Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has publicly backed a move to the Emirates Stadium for the France international.
Mbappe joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and has enjoyed a productive individual season, scoring 85 goals and providing 11 assists in 100 appearances for Los Blancos. However, Real Madrid are facing the prospect of finishing the season without a major trophy, leading to discontent amongst supporters and questions about the compatibility of Mbappe and Vinicius Junior in the same team.
Petit, speaking to the London Evening Standard, suggested that Arsenal would be a “perfect” fit for Mbappe on the left wing, but believes the player’s ego may prevent him from leaving Madrid without having secured silverware. He highlighted a recent incident where Mbappe took a break in Italy while recovering from injury as contributing to the criticism he is facing. A petition calling for Mbappe’s departure from Real Madrid has reportedly garnered over 65 million signatures, a figure that has surprised observers.
Despite Fabrizio Romano reporting that Real Madrid have no intention of selling Mbappe this summer, Football Insider claim Liverpool are renewing their interest in the forward. Journalist Pete O’Rourke suggested that Mbappe would be a “dream signing” for any Premier League club, but acknowledged the significant financial commitment required to secure his services. He noted that few clubs would be able to afford both the transfer fee and Mbappe’s wages.
Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League and have reached the Champions League final, presenting an attractive proposition for potential signings. A Champions League triumph for Arsenal could further strengthen their position in the transfer market and potentially open the door for a move for a player of Mbappe’s calibre. The situation at Real Madrid, coupled with the growing fan unrest, could force president Florentino Perez to consider significant changes to the squad in the summer.
