AC Milan have identified Eintracht Frankfurt’s board member for sport, Markus Krösche, as a leading candidate for their vacant sporting director role, according to reports from Matteo Moretto. The development comes after Milan’s pursuit of Austria national team coach Ralf Rangnick was unsuccessful.
Milan are currently undertaking a restructuring of their management team following a series of recent dismissals, leaving them in need of a key figure to oversee football operations. Krösche has emerged as a strong contender due to his proven track record in player recruitment and strategic planning at Frankfurt.
Krösche arrived at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in the club’s success. He oversaw the signings of players who contributed to Frankfurt’s Europa League triumph in 2022 and their consistent qualification for European competitions. He recently navigated a challenging managerial search following the dismissal of Albert Riera, ultimately securing the return of Adi Hütter.
Despite Milan’s interest, Krösche is currently under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2028, and the club are reportedly keen to extend his deal further. However, sources suggest that if Milan were to initiate formal negotiations and present a compelling offer, Frankfurt could face a difficult situation in retaining their sporting director. Losing Krösche on the eve of the transfer window would represent a significant setback for the Bundesliga club, potentially disrupting their summer transfer plans.
Frankfurt will be hoping to maintain stability after recently resolving their coaching situation with Hütter’s appointment, but the allure of a major European club like Milan could prove difficult for Krösche to resist. The appointment of a new sporting director at Milan would signal the start of a new era at the club, as they aim to return to the upper echelons of Italian and European football.
