Milan are showing interest in Konstantinos Karetsas, a Greek attacking midfielder from Genk, while negotiations for Lazio defender Mario Gila continue to prove challenging. According to reports, Milan and Lazio have not yet reached an agreement regarding Gila’s transfer, despite Milan submitting an offer through the player’s agent, Alejandro Camaño. The sticking point appears to be Lazio’s need to forward a portion of the transfer fee to Real Madrid, a previous arrangement related to Gila’s initial move.
While the difference in valuation is described as minimal, Lazio are reportedly holding firm, and Milan are prepared to include young left-back Lorenzo Calvani, a 2008-born talent, in the deal to facilitate the transfer. Milan coach Ruben Amorim, who recently arrived in Milan, is hopeful a compromise can be reached. The club have already agreed personal terms with Gila, offering a salary of €5 million net per season, plus a €5 million commission for his agent.
Competition for Gila from clubs like Napoli and Atalanta appears limited due to financial constraints. Napoli require player sales before making further acquisitions, while Atalanta are unable to match the proposed salary. Despite the ongoing negotiations, Milan are simultaneously exploring other options, identifying Karetsas as a potential reinforcement for the attacking midfield position. The 2007-born Karetsas has already amassed over 100 professional appearances for Genk and the Greek national team.
Genk recently renewed Karetsas’ contract in December and value him at approximately €40 million, viewing him as a “golden boy.” Milan are keen to move quickly to secure Karetsas and preempt interest from other major European clubs. However, a significant investment in a new attacking midfielder would likely be contingent on the sale of Rafael Leao, who continues to attract attention from Premier League clubs. Amorim, meanwhile, has expressed his enthusiasm for the Milan project, stating his intention to build a winning team.
