Massimiliano Allegri is poised to sign a contract extension with AC Milan, keeping him at the club through 2028, according to reports in Italy. The extension is contingent on Milan securing a Champions League spot, a feat they are on the verge of achieving ahead of their final Serie A match against Cagliari.
The club, under the ownership of Gerry Cardinale, views Allegri as a key figure in their long-term project to restore Milan to a position of domestic and European prominence. Cardinale reportedly praised Allegri’s leadership following their crucial victory over Genoa, recognizing his ability to stabilize the team during a challenging period earlier in the season. The extension, should Milan qualify for the Champions League, will see Allegri’s salary increase from €5 million to €6 million per season, plus bonuses.
Allegri returned to Milanello last year with a clear roadmap presented by the club’s leadership, including CEO Furlani and sporting director Tare. The initial phase focused on securing Champions League qualification, with more substantial investment planned for subsequent seasons. This approach was adopted due to limited revenue streams following a period outside of Europe’s elite competition. Allegri accepted the challenge, believing in the vision of a resurgent Milan.
Despite reported interest from Napoli, Milan intends to reaffirm its commitment to Allegri, recognizing his central role in Cardinale’s plans. The current agreement between Allegri and the club does not include a release clause, a common feature in Premier League contracts, reflecting the manager’s confidence in the project. Cardinale has already begun discussing future plans with Allegri, demonstrating his faith in the Italian manager’s ability to deliver success.
Looking ahead, Allegri has reportedly requested reinforcements across the squad, with a priority on signing a prolific striker. Players such as Gonçalo Ramos and Dusan Vlahovic have been mentioned as potential targets. Cardinale is committed to providing Allegri with the resources to strengthen the team, while maintaining financial sustainability. The club recognizes the difficulty of finding a replacement of Allegri’s caliber, and are keen to retain his services as they aim to compete for a second Champions League title.
