AS Monaco are contemplating the future of manager Sébastien Pocognoli at the end of the current season, according to a report in L’Équipe on Tuesday. Pocognoli took over as Monaco’s head coach in October of last year, replacing Adi Hütter after a disappointing start to the campaign.
Pocognoli’s position has become uncertain as Monaco currently sit seventh in Ligue 1 and are unable to climb higher than sixth place before the season concludes. This result is considered a disappointment given a promising run of form earlier in his tenure. Between February 13th and April 5th, Monaco achieved seven consecutive league victories and came close to eliminating Paris Saint-Germain from the Champions League qualifying rounds.
However, this positive momentum was abruptly halted by a heavy 4-1 defeat away to Paris FC. Club officials reportedly hold Pocognoli’s inconsistency as a key concern. Since his arrival at the club, Pocognoli has overseen 16 wins, 9 draws, and 12 losses across all competitions.
Prior to Pocognoli’s appointment, he gained recognition for his successful spell managing Union Saint-Gilloise. His time at Monaco has been marked by periods of strong performance interspersed with concerning setbacks, leading the club to reassess his long-term suitability. A decision regarding his future is expected following the completion of the Ligue 1 season, potentially opening the door for a new managerial appointment at the Principality club.
