AS Monaco have exercised their option to buy Ansu Fati from Barcelona, the club confirmed today. The Spanish forward has signed a four-year contract with the Ligue 1 side, keeping him at the Principality until June 2030.
Fati joined Monaco on a season-long loan last summer after struggling for consistent playing time at Barcelona. His time in France proved successful, with the 21-year-old scoring twelve goals in thirteen starts, finding the net every 110 minutes. Monaco were reportedly impressed with his resurgence after a period hampered by injuries at his former club.
The club released a statement praising Fati’s impact, noting he “regained rhythm and effectiveness, stringing together matches on the field.” They highlighted how he has “further committed to AS Monaco, where he will continue to put his technical qualities and goalscoring ability at the service of the Monegasque collective.”
Fati progressed through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, making his first-team debut in 2019. He quickly became a promising talent, but a series of serious injuries disrupted his development and limited his opportunities. The move to Monaco provided a fresh start, allowing him to regain confidence and form. The transfer fee is reported to be eleven million euros, the amount previously agreed upon as part of the loan deal.
This permanent signing strengthens Monaco’s attacking options as they prepare for the upcoming season. Fati’s pace, dribbling ability, and finishing will be valuable assets for the team, and his continued development in the Principality could see him become a key player for years to come.
