Massimiliano Allegri has been officially appointed as the new manager of Napoli, following the resolution of his contract with Milan. The move was finalized after a prolonged negotiation period, with the club confirming the agreement on June 30th. Allegri will become the thirteenth manager under the ownership of Aurelio De Laurentiis, tasked with ushering in a new era for the club.
De Laurentiis pursued Allegri aggressively, viewing him as the ideal candidate to follow on from Antonio Conte and provide strong leadership. Despite a challenging final season with Milan, the Napoli president remained convinced of Allegri’s capabilities and his track record of achieving success. The resolution of Allegri’s contract with Milan, which followed his dismissal at the end of the Serie A season, paved the way for a swift agreement with Napoli.
Allegri has already begun assessing the current Napoli squad and has been in discussions with sporting director Giovanni Manna and De Laurentiis regarding potential reinforcements. The club’s strategy will focus on streamlining the squad, reducing the wage bill, and integrating younger players, rather than pursuing extravagant spending. The aim is to build a competitive team capable of challenging for the Scudetto and performing well in European competitions.
Allegri has reportedly identified several key players within the existing Napoli roster, including captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who will remain a central figure in the team. He also intends to persuade Stanislav Lobotka to sign a contract extension and is a long-time admirer of Rasmus Hojlund. The future of Kevin De Bruyne and Scott McTominay will also be crucial, with Allegri keen to utilize McTominay’s qualities in midfield. Allegri is known for his tactical flexibility and is considering both a 3-4-3 and a 4-3-3 formation, tailoring his approach to best suit the strengths of his squad. The appointment signals a clear ambition from Napoli to return to the top of Italian football.
Allegri has signed a three-year contract with Napoli, earning €4.5 million per season, with additional bonuses tied to Champions League qualification and winning the league title. The official announcement is expected via a social media post from De Laurentiis.
