Paul Pogba’s future at Monaco is uncertain after a difficult first season back in Ligue 1, with the club potentially willing to let the midfielder leave this summer, according to Monaco’s General Director Thiago Scuro. The 31-year-old joined Monaco last July hoping to reignite his career after a second spell at Juventus, but injuries and a lack of match fitness have hampered his progress.
Pogba has made just six appearances for Monaco, with only one start, struggling to recapture the form that once made him a key player for both Juventus and Manchester United. Scuro acknowledged the situation is “very complicated,” stating that while the club has great respect for Pogba as a person, “the project with him did not work as we hoped” during the past season.
Scuro emphasized the open and transparent relationship Monaco has maintained with Pogba, suggesting a departure is possible if the player’s objectives no longer align with those of the club. He indicated that Pogba’s performances during pre-season will be crucial in determining his future, with the new manager, Filipe Luis, set to evaluate his physical and technical progress on a week-by-week basis.
“It is right to evaluate his preparation week by week, observe his progress from a physical and technical point of view,” Scuro said in a press conference. “Then the decision will be up to the coach: Filipe Luis will decide whether to give him space or not.” Pogba’s contract with Monaco is set to expire next year, adding further urgency to the situation.
The midfielder’s recent injury history includes issues with his thigh, ankle, and calf, contributing to his limited playing time. While a departure is not guaranteed, Scuro made it clear that Monaco will assess Pogba’s level throughout the summer before making a final decision. Should Pogba leave, it would represent a significant setback for both the player and the club, who had hoped he would become a central figure in their midfield.
