FC Nantes have confirmed the signing of Lucas Perrin on a free transfer, the club announced on Wednesday morning. The defender has agreed to a two-year contract with the Canaries, with an additional one-year option included. Perrin joins Maxime Dupé as one of Nantes’ summer recruits as they prepare for a campaign in Ligue 2.
Perrin arrives at Nantes after a season with Gijón in the Spanish second division, where he made 25 appearances and scored two goals. The 27-year-old’s career has taken him across Europe in recent years, with previous spells in Germany with Hamburg and Belgium with Cercle Bruges. He began his footballing education at Olympique de Marseille before moving to Strasbourg.
The move represents a return to France for Perrin, who will now compete in Ligue 2. Nantes were relegated from Ligue 1 at the end of the 2022-23 season, finishing 19th in the table. The club is aiming to quickly return to the top flight, and Perrin’s experience is expected to be a valuable asset in their pursuit of promotion.
Nantes have been active in the transfer market following their relegation, seeking to rebuild their squad for a promotion push. The signing of Perrin adds depth and experience to their defensive options. The club recently dismissed suggestions of a potential sale, with owner Franck Kita taking responsibility for the team’s future. Perrin’s arrival is expected to bolster Nantes’ backline as they look to compete at the top end of Ligue 2.
