Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among a number of clubs targeting Napoli midfielder Antonio Vergara, with the Serie A side prepared to sell the 23-year-old for around £26 million. This comes as Spurs continue to bolster their squad under manager Roberto De Zerbi, having already secured the services of Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers.
According to Italian outlet CalcioNapoli24, Como and several other clubs are also monitoring Vergara’s situation. Il Mattino reports that Napoli have deemed the player ‘not unsellable’ this summer, signalling a willingness to part ways with the attacking midfielder. Vergara spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Reggiana in Serie B, where he impressed, but has only made 12 Serie A appearances for Napoli this season.
Tottenham’s interest in Vergara aligns with De Zerbi’s stated desire to rebuild the squad following their Premier League survival. The manager recently emphasized the need to bring in “first level of players” to avoid repeating last season’s struggles, stating the current squad needs significant changes. De Zerbi believes approximately ten to twelve players are good enough to remain at the club, indicating a substantial overhaul is planned.
Spurs are also reportedly progressing with deals for Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke, with personal terms already agreed, and Manchester City’s Savinho, who is nearing a five-year contract. The club is also linked with a move for Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo as part of a wider chase involving eight clubs. The potential arrival of Vergara would further strengthen Tottenham’s attacking options as they prepare for the upcoming season.
This transfer activity signals a proactive approach from Tottenham in the summer window, aiming to provide De Zerbi with the squad he needs to compete more effectively in the Premier League.
