Napoli are beginning their search for a new manager following the departure of Antonio Conte, with Vincenzo Italiano currently at the top of their list according to reports in Italy. The club is prioritizing securing a strong leadership figure ahead of their centenary season, aiming to maintain their position at the summit of Italian football and improve upon Conte’s Champions League performance.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis is also monitoring the situation at AC Milan, with Max Allegri remaining a long-term target. De Laurentiis previously attempted to bring Allegri to Napoli last year before Conte agreed to continue as manager. The pair have a longstanding relationship, and Allegri’s previous success – five Serie A titles with Juventus and one with Milan – makes him an attractive candidate. However, Allegri is currently still contracted to Milan, and his future remains uncertain.
Italiano is currently in talks with Bologna regarding his future, but a move to Napoli would likely prove too tempting to resist. Bologna will not participate in European competition next season, while Napoli offers the opportunity to compete in the Champions League. De Laurentiis has previously expressed admiration for Italiano’s work, particularly during his time at Spezia, and appreciates his proactive and attacking style of play, which appears well-suited to Napoli’s existing squad. He typically employs a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation.
Napoli are also considering other options, including Andoni Iraola, whose contract with Bournemouth is set to expire. While this move is considered more difficult to execute, De Laurentiis is known for his willingness to pursue unconventional appointments, having previously brought in managers such as Rafael Benítez, Carlo Ancelotti, and Luciano Spalletti. De Laurentiis has stated the squad is strong, requiring only minor adjustments under a new coach, with over 30 players available including returning loanees.
