Jonas Omlin is poised to rejoin FC Basel from Borussia Mönchengladbach, with personal terms agreed and a medical expected next week, according to Sky Germany. The move would see the 32-year-old goalkeeper return to the club where he previously spent two successful seasons. Discussions between the two clubs are at an advanced stage, focusing on finalizing the remaining details of the transfer.
Omlin initially played for Basel between 2018 and 2020, establishing himself as the team’s number one choice in goal during that period. He made a significant impact, contributing to their consistent performances in both the Swiss Super League and European competitions. Following his departure, he moved to Montpellier, where he continued to showcase his shot-stopping abilities before a transfer to Mönchengladbach in 2023.
However, Omlin’s time at Mönchengladbach has been largely uneventful, with limited opportunities to feature in the first team. He didn’t make a single appearance for the Bundesliga side this season, and spent the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, where he also remained largely unused. The arrival of Moritz Nicolas has solidified Gladbach’s goalkeeping position, with Daniel Batz providing further competition for a starting role.
The transfer represents a chance for Omlin to regain regular playing time and rediscover his form at a familiar club. For FC Basel, the signing provides an experienced goalkeeper to strengthen their squad, potentially challenging for domestic titles and making an impact in European competitions. This move allows Mönchengladbach to trim their squad and reduce their wage bill, while providing Omlin with a clear pathway to first-team football. The deal is expected to be a permanent transfer, though the financial details have not yet been disclosed.
