Nico Paz will not be joining Real Madrid this summer, his father Pablo Paz has confirmed in an interview with Flashscore. The 22-year-old Argentinian midfielder, currently participating in the Copa América with the Albiceleste, will remain at Como for at least another season despite a €9 million release clause in his contract.
Pablo Paz stated that his son’s desire was to stay with Como for a further year, citing his happiness at the Italian club as a key factor in the decision. He believes this to be the best choice for his son’s continued development, particularly with the opportunity to compete in the Champions League next season.
Paz was a pivotal figure for Como during the 2023-24 Serie A campaign, contributing 12 goals and 7 assists as the club secured a fourth-place finish and qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history. He started in one match during the Copa América, against Jordan.
Real Madrid, where Paz was previously a youth player, had expressed a strong interest in re-signing him, but even the Spanish club acknowledged that another season of regular football in Italy would be more beneficial for his progression. According to Pablo Paz, who himself earned 22 caps for Argentina between 1996 and 1998, details regarding a future transfer, including the price, still need to be finalised and adjusted.
While a move to Madrid has been postponed, a future transfer is not entirely off the table, with the release clause remaining a potential pathway for Paz to return to the Spanish capital. The decision allows Paz to build on his impressive form and gain valuable Champions League experience before potentially stepping up to one of Europe’s elite clubs.
