Alexander Nübel’s three-year loan spell at VfB Stuttgart has come to an end, the Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday. The 29-year-old goalkeeper will return to parent club Bayern Munich, where the hierarchy are now seeking a permanent transfer this summer.
Nübel initially joined Stuttgart on loan from Bayern in 2021, going on to make a total of 129 appearances for the club. His time in Stuttgart proved crucial in revitalizing his career after a challenging period with AS Monaco between 2021 and 2023, where he featured in only four matches. Before his loan to Monaco, Nübel had made limited appearances for Bayern Munich, struggling to displace Manuel Neuer as the first-choice goalkeeper.
Stuttgart finished fourth in the Bundesliga this past season, benefiting from Nübel’s consistent performances in goal. The club publicly thanked the goalkeeper for his contributions over the past three years, acknowledging his importance to their recent success. Bayern Munich are reportedly seeking a fee of between €10 million and €15 million for Nübel, according to Bild.
Interest in Nübel is reportedly building from several top European clubs. Bild also reports that both Juventus and Manchester City have expressed interest in acquiring the German international this summer. His improved form and relatively young age make him an attractive option for clubs seeking a reliable goalkeeper. Nübel’s departure from Bayern will likely depend on finding a suitor willing to meet their valuation, and his next destination could significantly impact his chances of becoming a regular starter at a top European club.
