Andre Onana is not expected to return to Manchester United despite the goalkeeper’s desire to reclaim his place in the team, according to ESPN. The Cameroon international is currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, having joined them from United last summer.
Onana moved to Old Trafford from Inter Milan in 2023 for a reported €55million, but a series of high-profile errors led to the club loaning him out. United co-owners INEOS signed Senne Lammens as a replacement, and the Belgian has quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper.
While Onana had hoped to compete with Lammens for the starting spot next season, the club reportedly has no plans to include him in their squad. United are now seeking potential suitors for the 30-year-old, though his wages present a potential obstacle. Onana’s salary is set to increase following United’s qualification for the Champions League, a feat achieved under interim manager Michael Carrick.
Alongside Onana’s expected departure, Altay Bayindir is also poised to leave Manchester United this summer. The Turkey international joined United from Fenerbahce in 2023, with then-football director John Murtough praising his “qualities to support us in achieving our ambitions.” However, Bayindir has made only 17 appearances for the club and is expected to be sold, with Turkish media reporting an agreement in principle with Besiktas for a move next year. United will seek a replacement for Bayindir to provide competition for Lammens, who has been lauded as a standout signing in the Premier League.
