Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana will continue his loan spell at Trabzonspor next season, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. A ‘verbal agreement’ has been reached for the 30-year-old to remain with the Turkish club, as he is not part of United’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
Onana joined Manchester United in 2023 as a replacement for David De Gea, but experienced a mixed spell at Old Trafford. While he initially grew into his role, his performances declined significantly in his second season, becoming arguably the team’s weakest link. This led to the club signing Semme Lammens for around £17 million last summer.
Following Lammens’ arrival, Onana was sent on loan to Trabzonspor, where he made 30 appearances across all competitions in the 2025/26 season. Recent reports suggested Onana was keen on returning to Manchester United to compete with Lammens for the starting position, but club officials have reportedly dismissed the possibility of a second chance.
Romano reported on X that Trabzonspor will pay a loan fee to United as the details of the deal are finalized. This move will free up funds for Manchester United as they look to strengthen their squad, with multiple departures expected. The Red Devils are reportedly targeting as many as three new midfielders this summer.
United are also monitoring Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, though a deal faces financial hurdles. Romano noted that Tchouameni’s high salary is a concern for United, and Real Madrid have not yet indicated a willingness to let the player leave. As of now, no contact has been made from Madrid offering Tchouameni for transfer, meaning any potential move remains contingent on a change in circumstances at the Spanish club.
