Aston Villa are on the verge of completing a loan deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha, with the player reportedly travelling to England today to finalise the move. The move comes after Tottenham Hotspur decided against making his loan from last season permanent following the signings of Sandro Tonali and Matheus Fernandes.
Villa have been active in the transfer market this summer, seeking to balance incomings with outgoings after selling Youri Tielemans and Donyell Malen. The club is also reportedly considering further sales, with Arsenal showing interest in a double deal for Villa players. Despite these potential departures, Unai Emery’s side has already secured the signings of Johan Manzambi and Modou Kéba Cissé.
Palhinha impressed during his loan spell at Tottenham, becoming a key performer for the North London club. However, with their midfield now bolstered by new signings, Tottenham opted to pursue other options. This has allowed Aston Villa to emerge as frontrunners for the Portuguese international, beating out competition from Benfica, according to A Bola.
The agreement between Villa and Bayern Munich is structured as a loan with a €25 million (£21 million) option to buy. Fabrizio Romano has also reported that former Brighton left-back Pervis Estupinan has agreed personal terms with Villa, and Joao Gomes is set to join from Wolves, making Palhinha their fifth summer acquisition. Aston Villa are also actively pursuing a new winger, with Arsenal’s Morgan Rogers a potential target, as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
