VfB Stuttgart have confirmed the signing of midfielder Grischa Prömel from fellow Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim on a free transfer. The player has agreed to a contract with Stuttgart that will run until 2029.
Prömel, who was born in Cannstatt, a district of Stuttgart, expressed his delight at joining his boyhood club. He stated that playing for VfB was a long-held ambition and described it as a dream come true to wear the club’s colours, referring to the iconic Brustring chest band. The midfielder highlighted the club’s recent progress and attractive style of play as key factors in his decision.
Wohlgemuth, VfB Stuttgart’s board member for sport, praised Prömel’s qualities, describing him as an “outstanding footballer” with significant ambition and valuable experience. He also noted the player’s regional connection as a valuable asset for the club. The signing represents a significant boost to Stuttgart’s midfield options ahead of the upcoming season.
Prömel spent the last three seasons with Hoffenheim, making over 90 appearances and establishing himself as a key player in their midfield. Before joining Hoffenheim in 2021, he had a successful spell with Union Berlin, where he played a crucial role in their promotion to the Bundesliga and subsequent establishment in the league. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively makes him a versatile asset.
Stuttgart enjoyed a strong 2023-24 season, finishing fourth in the Bundesliga and qualifying for the Champions League. The addition of Prömel is expected to further strengthen their squad as they prepare for the challenges of competing in both domestic and European competitions. The move provides Prömel with the opportunity to play for a club with a strong regional connection and ambitious sporting goals.
