Paris Saint-Germain will make a summer move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, according to reports from Gaston Edul. The French champions previously expressed interest in Alvarez when he was departing Manchester City and will again explore a deal during the upcoming transfer window.
This news comes amidst continued speculation linking Alvarez with a move to Barcelona, who view the Argentinian international as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Barcelona are reportedly waiting for Alvarez to indicate a desire to leave Atletico before making a formal offer.
Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2025 after a successful spell with Manchester City, where he won the Premier League, Champions League, and Club World Cup. He has quickly become a key player for Diego Simeone’s side, contributing significantly to their attack with his pace and clinical finishing. This season, he has 18 goals in all competitions.
Atletico Madrid have publicly stated their intention to retain Alvarez, with the player currently under contract until 2030. The club are prepared to offer him a new contract with a substantial wage increase should he express a commitment to staying. However, if Alvarez does signal his intention to leave, Atletico would reportedly prefer to sell him to a foreign club rather than a direct La Liga rival like Barcelona.
This preference could potentially favour PSG and Arsenal, who have also been linked with the 24-year-old. While Alvarez’s preference remains unclear, PSG’s proactive approach could position them as strong contenders for his signature. The potential arrival of Alvarez would bolster PSG’s attacking options and add further firepower to their squad, as they look to compete on multiple fronts next season.
