Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that goalkeeper Mary Earps will leave the club at the end of her contract this summer. The England international arrived at PSG from Manchester United in 2014 and went on to make 57 appearances for the Parisian side.
Despite her time in the French capital, Earps was unable to lead PSG to Champions League success. The club finished third in the domestic league this season and were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League, marking a disappointing campaign that is expected to result in several departures during the transfer window. Earps herself found herself on the bench for the semi-final of the league play-offs.
Earps expressed her affection for the city in a statement released by the club, saying, “It’s a great pleasure to have played here and to have worn the PSG shirt. It’s an honour to have played at the Parc. I leave with a heart full of love for this city. Paris is magical.” Her time at PSG coincided with a period of fluctuating involvement with the England national team, including a temporary retirement following a disagreement with the national team manager and the team’s second-choice goalkeeper.
PSG are now reportedly targeting a French international goalkeeper as a replacement. The departure of Earps marks a significant change for the club as they look to rebuild and challenge for domestic and European honours next season. This move allows Earps to explore new opportunities and potentially return to the Women’s Super League or consider other top European clubs.
