Reims have reached a preliminary agreement with Daouda Guindo, who is out of contract with Brest, according to reports in France. The 23-year-old midfielder is expected to join the Ligue 2 side as they prepare for another push for promotion to Ligue 1. No transfer fee will be involved as Guindo’s contract with Brest is set to expire.
Guindo progressed through the youth ranks at AS Real Bamako in Mali before moving to Europe with Brest in 2022. He quickly established himself as a regular in the Brest squad, making 25 appearances in Ligue 1 during the 2025-2026 season. Primarily a defensive midfielder, Guindo offers physicality and a strong work rate, attributes Reims will likely hope to utilise as they build their squad.
Reims narrowly missed out on promotion to Ligue 1 this past season, finishing just outside the play-off places. The club are now looking to add experience to their squad in an attempt to finally achieve their goal of returning to the top flight. Manager Will Still is reportedly keen to bring in players who have already proven themselves at a professional level, and Guindo fits that profile.
Brest, meanwhile, are in a stable position and are not overly reliant on Guindo, allowing them to let him depart on a free transfer. The club finished comfortably mid-table in Ligue 1 and are focusing on strengthening other areas of the team. This move allows Guindo the opportunity to become a more central figure in a team aiming for promotion, potentially increasing his overall playing time.
The agreement is currently at the principle stage, and Guindo is expected to undergo a medical before finalising the move. Personal terms are not expected to be a significant hurdle, with both parties confident of reaching an agreement. This signing represents a shrewd piece of business for Reims, bringing in a promising young player without incurring a transfer fee.
