Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes is the subject of interest from multiple clubs across Europe, just two weeks into the summer transfer window, according to L’Équipe.
Discussions have begun between Toulouse and at least three foreign clubs: Aston Villa, Ipswich Town, and Napoli. Each club presents a different project for the 21-year-old, who has 19 caps for the French Under-21 national team. Aston Villa are considering Restes as a potential replacement for Emiliano Martinez, should the Argentinian international depart after the Copa America, offering the prospect of Champions League football and regular Premier League starts. Ipswich Town, recently promoted to the Premier League, represent a less pressured environment, while Napoli see Restes as a potential successor to Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
Toulouse are reportedly holding firm on their valuation of the player, stating they will not consider offers below €20 million. The club has acknowledged approaches but remains resolute in its asking price. While Spanish and French clubs have also expressed interest, Restes is prioritizing a project that will allow him to further develop his career.
Restes is currently under contract with Toulouse until 2028, but is keen to take the next step in his development. A sale would also allow Toulouse to promote 19-year-old Mathys Niflore to the number one position, mirroring the pathway afforded to Restes before his emergence. Eric Allibert, the club’s goalkeeping coach, recently signed a two-year contract extension, suggesting a long-term plan for developing young goalkeepers at the club.
Napoli’s interest is currently somewhat uncertain, pending the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri as their new manager, and clarity over the future of Alex Meret. Toulouse officials have stated they have not yet received any official offers for Restes, but are prepared to listen to proposals that meet their financial demands.
