Roberto Mancini has left his position as manager of Al-Sadd, the Qatari club confirmed on Tuesday. The departure was announced by Al-Sadd via a video message thanking the Italian coach for his service. The club’s statement described his time as “a brief but precious experience, full of wonderful memories” and expressed hope for a potential reunion in the future.
Mancini arrived at Al-Sadd in September 2023, replacing Jesús Casas. His tenure lasted less than six months, during which he oversaw 17 matches, winning 10, drawing 4, and losing 3. Al-Sadd currently sit third in the Qatar Stars League, eight points behind league leaders Al Rayyan, though they have played fewer games. The team was also eliminated from the AFC Champions League in the group stage under his leadership.
Prior to joining Al-Sadd, Mancini was best known for his successful spell as manager of the Italian national team. He led Italy to victory at the UEFA European Championship in 2020, ending a 53-year wait for a major trophy. He resigned from his position with the Azzurri in August 2023, citing the difficulty of balancing the role with club management. Before managing Italy, Mancini had a distinguished club career, notably winning league titles with Inter Milan, Manchester City, and Galatasaray.
The reasons behind Mancini’s departure from Al-Sadd have not been fully disclosed, but reports suggest it was a mutual decision. The club’s statement indicates a positive parting, suggesting no significant disagreement. With Mancini now available, speculation will inevitably turn to potential openings in European football, particularly given his proven track record at the international level and with major clubs. Al-Sadd will now begin the search for a new manager to guide them through the remainder of the season and beyond.
