Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has been lauded by teammate Morgan Rogers as a player “who can do everything,” amid reported interest from Arsenal ahead of the 2026-27 season. Both players are currently with the England squad preparing for their World Cup quarter-final against Norway.
Arsenal are reportedly nearing a breakthrough in negotiations with Villa for Rogers, with the 23-year-old keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window closes on September 1st. Konsa, however, has emerged as a more recent target for Mikel Arteta’s side, potentially as a replacement for Ben White, who has been linked with a departure from the club.
Konsa, like White, is versatile, capable of playing both centre-back and right-back. Aston Villa are believed to value him around €70 million, despite him having only two years remaining on his current contract with Unai Emery’s side. Rogers emphasized Konsa’s quality, stating he believes the defender is “one of the best centre-backs in football” and highlighting his aerial ability, tackling strength, and skill on the ball.
“I don’t know a flaw in his game,” Rogers told reporters. “Honestly, I think that’s helped Villa that probably a bigger club has not taken him in the last few years.” He believes Konsa’s relative lack of widespread recognition is a benefit to Villa, but acknowledged his increasing visibility on the international stage.
While Arsenal are monitoring Konsa, a deal appears challenging given Villa’s valuation. The Gunners are also pursuing other targets, including Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, and Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis, potentially straining their financial resources. A sale of Ben White could be necessary to fund a move for Konsa, should Villa hold firm on their asking price. The club are currently keeping close tabs on the defender, but a summer swoop appears unlikely at present.
