L’AS Saint-Étienne have completed the signing of Danish forward Jakob Breum from Go Ahead Eagles on a contract until 2030, the Ligue 1 club confirmed on Friday. The transfer fee is reported to be in excess of €3 million. Breum will wear the number 10 shirt for Saint-Étienne, managed by Ian Cathro.
The 22-year-old joins Saint-Étienne as the club looks to bolster its attacking options ahead of the 2026-2027 season. Sporting director Loïc Perrin stated that Breum “corresponds to the profile we were looking for to strengthen our offensive sector,” praising his ability to make a difference in the final third and be decisive. Perrin also highlighted Breum’s technical qualities and passing ability as being in line with Cathro’s tactical vision.
Breum began his career with Odense in Denmark before moving to the Eredivisie with Go Ahead Eagles in 2023. He quickly became a key player for the Dutch side, playing a significant role in their KNVB Beker (Dutch Cup) triumph in 2025. This success earned Go Ahead Eagles a place in the Europa League, where they faced Olympique Lyonnais in the group stage, losing 2-1 on December 11th.
During his three seasons with Go Ahead Eagles, Breum made 105 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 17 assists. He has also represented Denmark at the Under-21 level, earning six caps. Breum is the second signing for Saint-Étienne this summer, following the arrival of Algerian defender Sohaib Naïr from Guingamp. The addition of Breum provides Saint-Étienne with a creative attacking threat as they prepare for the upcoming Ligue 1 campaign.
This move represents a significant step up in Breum’s career, offering him the opportunity to play in one of Europe’s major leagues. Saint-Étienne will hope that Breum’s goalscoring record and creative abilities will translate to success in Ligue 1.
