Liverpool are undergoing a significant squad overhaul this summer ahead of the arrival of new manager Andoni Iraola, with several high-profile departures already confirmed. The club announced that Mohamed Salah will leave as a free agent, bringing an end to his successful spell at Anfield.
Salah’s exit marks a notable turning point after a reported breakdown in relations following a new contract signed last year. Despite a final record of 257 goals in 442 appearances, the Egyptian forward will not be retained under the new regime. The club also confirmed the departure of long-serving left-back Andy Robertson, who joins Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer after nine years of service, making 378 appearances for the Reds.
Centre-back Ibrahima Konate is another notable departure, with his contract expiring and no new deal agreed. Konate, who joined from RB Leipzig in 2021, made 183 appearances for Liverpool and has reportedly agreed terms with Real Madrid, pending their presidential elections. The defender expressed his disappointment at not being able to say goodbye to the fans at the final game of the season.
Liverpool have already secured two signings ahead of the new season. Twenty-year-old defender Jeremy Jacquet will join from Rennes for a fee of £55 million, with potential add-ons of a further £5 million. The club also agreed a deal in January, which has now been completed, to sign 18-year-old defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Wien. These additions are intended to bolster the defensive options as Iraola begins to reshape the squad.
The club is expected to focus on replacing Salah, with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande identified as a potential target. Questions also remain over the future of Cody Gakpo, while the left-back position is expected to be filled by Milos Kerkez and the returning Kostas Tsimikas. Further additions in central defence are also possible, alongside a potential resolution to the goalkeeping situation surrounding Alisson Becker.
