West Ham United have informed Chelsea of their desire to retain Jarrod Bowen this summer, despite strong interest from the London club, according to reports. The 29-year-old has been linked with a move following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship, with Chelsea considered frontrunners for his signature as they seek to bolster their attacking options.
Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United have also been mentioned as potential suitors for Bowen, but West Ham are currently hoping to avoid selling their captain. While no formal offer has yet been received from Chelsea, the club are reportedly considering making an approach. Chelsea have already secured the signings of Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha this summer, but manager Enzo Maresca is still looking to add further firepower, with the futures of Nicolas Jackson, Liam Delap and Alejandro Garnacho uncertain.
Bowen would represent a departure from Chelsea’s recent strategy of focusing on younger players, as he is the oldest player the club has been linked to under BlueCo ownership. However, the club have indicated a shift in approach this summer, and Bowen’s proven track record makes him an attractive target. The England international has recorded at least 20 league goal contributions in four of his last five seasons with West Ham, demonstrating his ability to perform at a high level.
The Sun reports that West Ham are determined to keep Bowen, despite needing to generate approximately €120 million through player sales to comply with financial regulations. The club are optimistic they can achieve this without being forced to sell their key players, and have communicated this stance to Chelsea and other interested parties. Bowen himself recently expressed his commitment to helping West Ham return to the Premier League, stating his desire to get the club “back to where it deserves to be” in an interview with Sky Sports.
“There’s going to be rumours, there’s going to be talk,” Bowen said. “Ultimately, what I see is getting this club back in the Premier League.” He acknowledged the difficult situation following relegation but reiterated his focus on achieving promotion. This public statement could be interpreted as a signal of his current intentions, though a significant offer from a top-flight club could still prove tempting.
