Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is prioritizing a contract extension for striker Dusan Vlahovic ahead of a club summit with owner John Elkann, sporting director Damien Comolli, and technical director Giorgio Chiellini. The meeting, held today, will focus on outlining the club’s transfer strategy and squad reinforcement plans for the upcoming season.
Vlahovic has been a key figure for Juventus since returning from injury, scoring four goals in his last month and consistently finding the net when fit. Despite his contributions, the club ultimately missed out on Champions League qualification, a situation Spalletti believes could have been different with a more reliable striking option available throughout the season. He has repeatedly stressed the need for players who embody the Juventus spirit.
Negotiations with Vlahovic’s representatives are ongoing, with an agreement in principle reached on a €6 million salary plus bonuses. However, a significant gap remains regarding the signing bonus, with the player’s camp seeking over €8 million, while Juventus are currently offering €3 million. This difference, exceeding €5 million, is proving a major stumbling block, with Comolli reportedly hesitant to further compromise.
Vlahovic’s situation has attracted interest from several European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Newcastle United. In Italy, Napoli, under Giovanni Manna, are also monitoring the situation, potentially viewing Vlahovic as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku. Spalletti is keen to retain Vlahovic, valuing his impact both on and off the pitch, and fears a protracted search for a suitable alternative.
Spalletti reportedly played a key role in reopening talks with Vlahovic’s representatives, advocating for his importance to the team. The outcome of today’s summit hinges on Elkann’s willingness to authorize a more substantial offer to secure Vlahovic’s future. The club is also facing difficulties in securing a goalkeeper, with a move for Alisson stalled due to Liverpool’s demands, further emphasizing the need for a positive resolution with Vlahovic.
