Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi is facing significant obstacles, despite the club’s willingness to offer up to £85 million for the 20-year-old, according to reports. While Spurs have been heavily linked with Kroupi as part of their ambitious summer overhaul, a transfer is now considered “highly unlikely” by Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke.
Tottenham have already invested £237 million in new signings this window, bringing in Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke, alongside free transfers for Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka. Manager Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly keen to further strengthen his attacking options, particularly on the left wing, following the departure of Son Heung-min last summer.
Kroupi emerged as a key target after a successful debut season in the Premier League, scoring 13 goals for Bournemouth. Paris Saint-Germain also expressed interest, but sources indicate Kroupi is unwilling to join the French champions if it means a limited role behind established stars like Ousmane Dembele. This seemingly opened the door for Tottenham to make a move.
However, Bournemouth appear determined to retain their prized asset, especially with European football now on the horizon. O’Rourke reports that the club are reluctant to repeat past instances of selling key players and are likely to reject Tottenham’s substantial offer. Kroupi is under contract with Bournemouth until 2030, giving the club a strong negotiating position. While Tottenham are prepared to spend big, Bournemouth’s resolve could prove insurmountable, potentially forcing De Zerbi to explore alternative targets to bolster his attack.
