Angers have announced the appointment of Stéphane Gilli as their new manager, effective from the start of next season. The club confirmed the move on Tuesday evening, following the departure of Alexandre Dujeux, who recently joined Lorient.
Gilli returns to management just four months after being relieved of his duties at Paris FC, whom he guided to promotion to Ligue 1 at the end of the 2024-2025 season. He has signed a two-year contract with Angers, keeping him at the club until 2028.
According to a statement released by Angers, Gilli was chosen for his understanding of the demands of top-level football and his ability to unite the squad around an ambitious playing project. Club president Jérôme Negroni expressed confidence in Gilli’s ability to build upon the work already started by Dujeux.
Gilli himself stated his intention to continue the progress made by the previous coaching staff, acknowledging the foundations laid by Dujeux. The appointment marks a continuation of managerial changes within Ligue 1, with several clubs seeking new leadership ahead of the upcoming season. This move allows Gilli to quickly return to the top flight and test his managerial skills with a new challenge.
The change in leadership at Angers aims to provide a fresh impetus for the club, hoping to build on existing strengths and establish a competitive edge in Ligue 1. Gilli’s experience in securing promotion with Paris FC suggests a tactical acumen that Angers will hope to harness.
