Thiago Silva has left FC Porto after a brief return to the club, Porto announced on Tuesday. The veteran defender rejoined the Portuguese side in winter 2026, making 14 appearances and contributing to their Primeira Liga title win.
Silva previously had a spell with Porto’s B team in 2005 before embarking on a successful career that included a prominent period with Paris Saint-Germain. Following the title win, Silva stated, “I see the incredible moments we lived and this title went to the portista family, who deserve it so much. The champion is back.”
The 40-year-old’s future remains uncertain, with the possibility of retirement looming. Silva recently indicated he was aware his career was nearing its end, but also expressed a desire to remain involved with clubs where he had enjoyed success. “You never know what tomorrow will bring,” he said. “I would like to work in the clubs where I lived happy moments, I dream of finding them all again.”
His departure from Porto marks the end of a short but impactful second spell with the club. Silva’s experience and leadership were valued during his time there, and his contribution to the league title will be remembered fondly by the club’s supporters. While his next move is unknown, Silva’s career has been defined by adaptability and a commitment to the game, suggesting he will continue to be involved in football in some capacity.
