Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, with reports suggesting a deal could be completed this week. According to sources, Tottenham saw an initial offer of around £80 million (€92.7m) rejected by Newcastle, who are holding firm on a £100 million (€115.9m) asking price. Tonali is reportedly open to the move, contingent on an agreement between the two clubs.
The interest from Tottenham comes after the club already invested €70 million in Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke, strengthening their defensive options under new manager Roberto De Zerbi. Newcastle’s willingness to sell Tonali stems from their failure to qualify for European competition next season, making the Italy international’s departure more likely. Several other clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City, are also considering moves for the midfielder, but Tottenham are attempting to secure a quick deal.
Tonali joined Newcastle last summer for a fee of around €70 million, but his time at St. James’ Park appears to be coming to an end after just one season. The 24-year-old made 32 Premier League appearances for the Magpies, establishing himself as a key player in midfield. Before joining Newcastle, Tonali spent several years with AC Milan, developing into one of Serie A’s most promising midfielders.
Elsewhere, Arsenal are reportedly close to signing 16-year-old Jeremy Monga from Leicester City for a fee of £10 million (€11.6m), while Liverpool have confirmed the arrival of Victor Munoz from Osasuna for €40m. Casemiro is set to join Inter Miami to play alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in MLS, and Bayern Munich are pursuing Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported €65m. Inter Milan are also nearing the completion of a €50m deal for Atalanta’s Marco Palestra.
The flurry of activity highlights a busy transfer window, even with the 2026 World Cup ongoing. These moves signal clubs’ intent to strengthen their squads ahead of the upcoming season, with several high-profile players changing clubs in the coming weeks.
