Torino are interested in signing forward Matteo Cancellieri from Lazio during the current transfer window, according to reports in Italy. The move comes as Cancellieri’s future at Lazio remains uncertain, with contract renewal talks reportedly stalled.
Cancellieri’s current deal with the Rome-based club is set to expire in 2027, and negotiations for an extension have not progressed as Lazio president Claudio Lotito and the club’s hierarchy hoped. This has led to Lazio considering a sale to avoid losing the player on a free transfer in a future window. The club are therefore open to offers for the 21-year-old.
The Italy U21 international primarily plays as a winger but is capable of featuring across the front line. Cancellieri joined Lazio from Hellas Verona in August 2022, and has made 25 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring three goals. Last season, he featured sporadically, often as a substitute, and will likely be seeking more consistent playing time.
Torino are in the market for attacking reinforcements ahead of the new Serie A season. Manager Ivan Juric is known for his preference for dynamic, hard-working forwards, and Cancellieri’s profile could be a good fit for the team’s system. Torino finished mid-table last season and will be aiming to push for European qualification in the upcoming campaign.
While a fee has not yet been disclosed, Lazio will be keen to recoup a significant portion of the investment they made in acquiring Cancellieri last summer. The transfer could provide a boost for both clubs, offering Cancellieri a platform for more regular football and Lazio a financial return on a player whose long-term future at the Stadio Olimpico appeared increasingly doubtful. The move would add further depth to Torino’s attacking options as they prepare for the new season.
