Tottenham Hotspur have been put on alert regarding the potential availability of Nico Paz this summer following a shift in strategy at Real Madrid, according to TEAMtalk. The Argentine midfielder, 21, had been expected to return to the Santiago Bernabeu after a loan spell with Como, with Real Madrid holding a €10million (£8.6m / $11.4m) buy-back clause.
However, the appointment of Jose Mourinho as Real Madrid manager has altered the situation. While Mourinho reportedly admires Paz’s talent, sources indicate he doesn’t see the player as a natural fit for his planned system. As a result, Real Madrid are now considering triggering the buy-back clause only to immediately sell Paz for a significantly increased fee, estimated to be around €60million (£51.8m / $68.5m).
Tottenham previously made a serious attempt to sign Paz last year, engaging in extensive discussions before negotiations stalled due to Real Madrid’s insistence on a future buy-back clause, which Spurs were unwilling to accept. The North London club remain admirers of the player, believing his creativity and technical ability would be a valuable addition to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad, despite ongoing interest in West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes.
Arsenal and Chelsea have also been informed of the changing situation, though Tottenham are currently showing the strongest interest among Premier League clubs. Competition is expected from abroad, with Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Italian champions Inter Milan all weighing up potential moves. Inter Milan, in particular, could prove to be a significant obstacle for Spurs. Como, however, are hoping to retain Paz, potentially negotiating another loan deal, but Real Madrid’s preference appears to be a sale. The player himself was reportedly excited about the prospect of a genuine opportunity at Real Madrid, but is happy at Como and open to staying with the Serie A side, who will now compete in the Champions League.
The potential sale would represent a substantial profit for Real Madrid, allowing Mourinho to reinvest funds as he reshapes the squad following the arrivals of several players including Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella. Talks between Real Madrid and Como are scheduled this week to determine Paz’s future.
