Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to activate the €30 million (£26m) release clause for Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong, according to reports in Spain. The move comes as Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi seeks to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season, with the club currently battling to maintain their Premier League status.
Tottenham began the weekend only one point above West Ham United, who occupy the final relegation spot, highlighting the need for reinforcements. While De Zerbi has overseen an improvement in performances since taking charge, a lack of consistent goalscoring remains a concern, with only Richarlison reaching double figures in the Premier League for the club this term.
Etta Eyong has featured prominently for Levante in LaLiga this season, making 28 appearances and contributing seven goals and four assists. The 22-year-old Cameroonian international represents a relatively low-risk option for Tottenham, potentially offering an immediate impact in attack, as De Zerbi seeks a player who can quickly adapt to the demands of the Premier League.
However, some observers question whether Etta Eyong possesses the experience and proven track record to guarantee goals in the Premier League. This is his first full season in LaLiga, following limited appearances and productive spells in academy football. While his goal tally is comparable to Richarlison’s, who has played only one game more, Etta Eyong is still developing as a striker.
Tottenham’s ability to attract higher-profile targets may be limited by their current league position, and the financial constraints that could come with potential relegation. This could force the club to consider lesser-known talents like Etta Eyong as viable options in the summer transfer window. Securing Premier League football will be crucial to attracting more established players.
