Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in signing Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The news comes as Tottenham continue a busy summer of recruitment under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, having already added Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke and Mateus Fernandes to their squad.
Gakpo endured a relatively quiet 2025/26 season with Liverpool, however, he impressed for the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, registering three goals and one assist in four appearances. This form has seemingly attracted the attention of Tottenham, who are now exploring options to strengthen their attacking line.
Romano reports that, as of early July, Liverpool are not actively seeking to sell Gakpo and have not indicated to the player that he is free to leave. The club is also not currently entertaining offers from Tottenham. However, Romano suggests that this stance could change if Tottenham submit a formal proposal, making it a situation to monitor as the transfer window progresses.
Sources indicate that Tottenham have already held preliminary discussions with Liverpool regarding Gakpo’s availability, with transfer insider Graeme Bailey reporting talks took place on June 22nd. The potential arrival of Victor Munoz from Osasuna, coupled with competition for a starting role from Rio Ngumoha, has reportedly led Gakpo to question his place in Liverpool’s starting eleven under new manager Andoni Iraola.
While Gakpo is not actively pushing for a move, Bailey has stated that the player does not want to be limited to a squad role at Anfield. Tottenham’s interest could therefore provide an opportunity for Gakpo to secure more regular first-team football. A move to North London would allow him to become a key component of De Zerbi’s new project, potentially revitalizing his career.
