Leandro Trossard is poised to leave Arsenal for Besiktas in a transfer worth €20 million, with a further €2 million potentially payable in bonuses, according to The Athletic. The agreement between the two clubs signals a swift departure for the Belgian winger, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium just over 18 months ago.
Trossard, 31, has one year remaining on his current contract with Arsenal, having signed an extension upon his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023. He initially joined the Gunners for a fee exceeding €31 million and quickly became a valuable member of Mikel Arteta’s squad. During his time in North London, he made 174 appearances across all competitions, scoring 36 goals and providing 34 assists.
The move to Besiktas represents a significant shift for Trossard, who was a key contributor to Arsenal’s Premier League title-winning campaign last season. He featured in 50 matches in all competitions, registering eight goals and 11 assists. In the Premier League itself, he was named in the starting eleven on 21 occasions, demonstrating his importance to Arteta’s tactical setup.
Currently participating with the Belgian national team at the World Cup, where they have qualified for the round of sixteen, Trossard’s departure will leave a void in Arsenal’s attacking options. The sale allows Arsenal to recoup a substantial fee for a player entering the final year of his contract, and potentially reinvest in other areas of the squad. Besiktas will be gaining an experienced and proven Premier League performer as they look to strengthen their own attacking line-up. This transfer could provide Trossard with a fresh challenge and a prominent role within a new league.
